What comprises a holistic early childhood curriculum?
Rudolf Steiner spoke on a number of occasions about the experiences that are essential for the healthy development of the young child. These include: • love and warmth • an environment that nourishes the senses• creative and artistic experiences • meaningful adult activity to be imitated • free, imaginative play • protection of the forces of childhood • gratitude, reverence, and wonder • joy, humor, and happiness • early childhood practitioners pursuing a path of inner development
In this 12-module course, we will examine, explore, and put into practice each of these aspects of holistic early childhood education.
"Imbue thyself with the power of imagination. Have courage for the truth. Sharpen thy feeling for responsibility of soul." Rudolf Steiner

This Oregon State-approved set 2 training focuses on ways to support young children in belonging.
We will unearth ways to encourage children's intimate knowledge of the natural world in and around their neighborhoods, instilling an attitude of curiosity, wonder, and belonging in children and teachers. That children become familiar with their environment, and naturally participate in the cycling life of that place, is essential to their well-being and healthy development.

This class is designed to help professionals working with young children and families understand the developmental foundations that form the base for healthy learning and functioning. Participants will increase their ability to recognize areas requiring additional support. Relevant hand-outs, songs, rhymes, games, and activities to deepen the learning and to use with children will be provided throughout this 5-module course.
"No one is born fully-formed: it is through self-experience in the world that we become what we are." Paulo Freire

Set 1 (3 hours)
The class is designed to help parents and professionals working with young children understand the developmental foundations that form the base for healthy learning and functioning, leading to successful academic learning and social interactions. Through active participation, attendees will increase their ability to recognize areas requiring additional support and facilitate strengthening activities. Relevant hand-outs, songs, rhymes, games and activities to deepen the learning and to use with children will be provided. The session will focus on the lower foundational senses; balance (vestibular); self/movement (proprioception); touch (tactile), warmth, and the importance of supporting the healthy development of these systems.

Set 2 (6-10 hours)
HGD and LEC
Explore ways in which young children naturally learn and develop math skills and how we encourage (or hinder) the unfolding of these inherent qualities. The healthy development of the young child's natural curiosity and interest in math is supported through play, movement, games, songs, and creative activities during these formative early years.

Set 2 (6-10 hours)
HGD, LEC, SN
This hands-on learning experience will present a well-rounded view of the elements and practices considered in holistic or Waldorf early childhood education.

Set 2 (6-10 hours)
HSN, LEC
We will explore the topic of whole-body learning and ways to incorporate movement journeys, games, and other lively activities into the child’s everyday.

This course explores ways Holistic/Waldorf early childhood education provides long-lasting foundational enrichment for the child and family. The healthy development of the young child during the formative early years is supported through a strong nature-play-relationship-based curriculum, parent involvement, and holistic child assessment.
"What the educator does in teaching is to make it possible for the students to become themselves." Paulo Freire
